South West London Ghana SDA Youth Department
The South West London Ghana Adventist church is committed to understanding young people and training its youth for leadership and service to humanity.
Our youth department promotes a church-centred and a spiritual-recreational-activity program which is designed for young people as well as older people. While the name, as it is, may suggest that the youth department exist primarily for only the younger members of the church, one of its basic purposes however is to bring together parents and the youth through active involvement in biblical, social, and physical activities. Here the so-called generation gap disappears as young and old worship, work, and play together in a bond of common experience. A meaningful relationship develops as we all work together in sharing and building confidence
The youth department is made up of five different sub groups, and they are the Spirit of Prophecy and the Outreach; health, fitness and social; prayer and Sabbath school; media and drama; and finally the music group. This system of sub groups employed by the youth department is done principally to enhance the spiritual development of each member of the youth. Here, each member is given the opportunity to further develop their God given talent in an area within the department. The youth department is filled with action, adventure, challenge, group activities, and provides opportunities for the development of new attitudes and skills that produce personal growth, team or community spirit and a sense of loyalty and respect for God, His Creation, and His church.
Youth department aims for the year 2010
- To create an environment within the church and primarily among the youth where love, respect and unity will strive.
- To engage in a diligent and a systematic study of the scripture in order for the youth and the church as a whole to grow spiritually.
- To go out in the community to engage in the propagation of the gospel as given according to the Holy Scriptures.
- To efficiently involve in a series of intercessory prayer, where the youth would have the opportunity to share each others spiritual experience thereby promoting spiritual growth, unity, and maturity.
- To engage in series of community activities to help improve our community and as a means of elevating Christ our Lord the outside society.
There are series of events and programmes throughout the year which is essentially planed keep the youth active. There is a total of four youth days within the year, one each quarter. This gives the youth the opportunity to take charge of the day’s service and work to the glory of God. All activities involved in the morning service are organised and led by the youth, such as the morning devotion, Sabbath school, and the divine service. The afternoon service is usually filled with entertainment programmes which include various activities like musical concerts, role plays, bible quiz, and testimonies and songs of praise by the whole congregation.
Our last two youth days were very successful with the number of activities organised. Various singers were invited from all the other churches to form the party for the musical concert. If you happened not to be present, then count it as a great miss and long to be a part of our next youth day event. Not forgetting the quiz show which was done, in its proceedings and arrangement, to involve the whole congregation. It turned out to be pulsating as well as an exciting event. After this event was the role play. The youth involved in the act did a tremendous performance, they kept everyone focus and observing with keen interest. The audience were seated, almost to the edge of their seat, with eager anticipation of what was going to happen next. It was indeed a joyful and a delightful occasion. The youth did a splendid job, giving thanks to the almighty God for making it a success.
Our next youth day event is on the 31th of July, 2010. Considering the preparations and all the provisions being made in the anticipation of this day, this event is marked to be a God filling, character changing, and a sensational occasion. Do not be a drop out and do your very best to attend. If for some rather unforeseen reasons you happen to miss out on this most blissful day, there should be no room for worry because there would be a final one to come. A date for this would be announced would be announced at a latter stage and would be just as fun.
In addition to the above mentioned activities are also sporting and social activities arranged for this year. The church is currently involved in a tournament organised by the South England Conference. Our youth is third in the tournament of nine other teams. Even though it is our first time participating in such an event, and also having a relatively younger team among all the other experience teams in the tournament, we are doing exceptionally well. All updates would be posted as the tournament progresses. Thank you for visiting the South West London Ghana youth page.
